JOB TITLE: Reliability Engineer


Provide program and technical support to the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Product Support - OASD(PS).

ODASD(PS) is responsible for Life Cycle Support that optimizes affordability, materiel readiness that supports Joint war fighter requirements. Specifically, this office is the focal point for developing acquisition and sustainment Life Cycle Product Support Strategies through Policy, Guidance, Direction and providing implementation assistance to OSD and the Services through the development, and assessment of Product Support Strategies, and program affordability covering all acquisition and sustainment phases.


  • Provide supportability engineering assessments and analyses for use by OSD decision makers during Analysis of Alternatives (AoA) studies, in support of OIPT meetings, Defense Acquisition Board (DAB) reviews and Milestone Decisions
  • Participate in the systems engineering process to ensure programsí ability to develop and deliver systems which balance capability, materiel availability, materiel reliability, ownership cost and mean down time
  • Assess and determine the adequacy of performance-based sustainment strategies as outlined in key program documentation to include Acquisition Strategies, Acquisition Program Baselines, Data Management Strategies, JCIDS Capabilities Development Documents (CDD) and Capability Production Documents (CPD), System Engineering Plans (SEP), Test Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP), and Life-Cycle Sustainment Plans (LCSP)
  • Support DASD(PS) principals in key milestones and decision points thru preparation of detailed briefings, position papers and assessments
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance in the development, monitoring, usage and collection of materiel readiness metrics


Security Clearance: Secret

  • An active SECRET Clearance
  • Bachelorís Degree in Engineering/Science, Logistics, Program Management
  • Knowledge in the areas of product support planning, product support element development, performance-based logistics, total life cycle systems management, business case analysis, reliability growth, earned value management, design-sustainment interfaces, data management, supportability engineering/systems engineering processes, requirements generation/capability development, and training
  • Knowledge of the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS), process and Service policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Major Defense Acquisition Programs (MDAP)


  • Masters Degree in Engineering/Science, Logistics, Program Management
  • Program/project management experience (Government/Military/Industry)
  • DAIWA Certification in Life Cycle Logistics, Program Management, Business/Financial Management, or Systems Engineering
  • Knowledge of OSD acquisition and sustainment policy, guidance and the Integrated Defense Acquisition Life Cycle Management Framework
  • Eight years experience in DoD weapons systems acquisition and sustainment management
  • Five years experience in Warfare Portfolios and/or Missile Defense programs
  • Three years of Military Staff, Joint Staff, or PEO experience
