JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer – Product Security

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The Machine Learning Competency Sector develops a wide range of capabilities addressing our customer’s challenges which include data integration and fusion, representing expert knowledge for machines to use, and leveraging natural language sources to optimize workflows.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer experienced in applying advanced security mechanisms to control access to software interfaces, data at-rest, and data in-flight. Successful candidates will have a proven track record developing software in Java for operation in a Linux environment with experience designing and implementing access control measures to comply with system requirements.

Candidates must have strong software development skills and some experience with software architecture. No prior experience in machine learning is required for this position, however a strong mathematical background and an understanding of formal models of security is desired.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, create and modify software written in Java
• Package and deliver software for a Linux environment, integrating with Mandatory Access Control mechanisms (SELinux) and other system security mechanisms in accordance with system security requirements and client direction
• Using your creative and technical skills to recommend improvements to software architecture and construction that simplify or strengthen implementation of security measures
• Collaborate with co-workers, leadership, and clients to understand client problems, identify solutions, and demonstrate software solutions
• Participate in internal and client-defined agile software development processes
• Write technical software documentation and explain software design and implementation to co-workers, clients, and partners
• Mentor co-workers on software engineering and security principles

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Security Clearance: Secret

• Secret clearance; Ability to obtain TS/SCI
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline from an accredited university
• 2+ years experience with Linux
• 4+ years experience with Java development
• Experience applying access control to software interfaces and data
• Working knowledge of single sign on, PKI, Linux permisisons, SELinux
• Working knowledge of Java security APIs (SecurityManager, JCA, JSSE, JAAS) and Java-specific secure coding practices
• Working knowledge of Git and bug tracking tools such as JIRA
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong team player who can effectively contribute to project development

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Active TS/SCI security clearance
• Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline from an accredited university
• 5+ years experience with Linux
• 7+ years experience with Java development
• Experience with SELinux MLS and related formal security models
• Experience with Java EE application developement and related standards (JAX-RS, CDI, Config, Servlet)
• Experience with containerization and container orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with database software and database security
• Experience with DoD or Intelligence Community (IC) programs with a focus on standards and procedures related to system and data security

WORK LOCATION: Arlington, VA or San Diego, CA

TRAVEL: 5%
